An Important Message to our Customers About The Humane Treatment of Livestock

Our company began as a way to connect small, family organic cattle ranchers with consumers concerned about both the way their food is grown and conventional agriculture’s chemical impact on the land. We remain committed to that simple vision today. We were all saddened and disturbed to see images in the media of cattle being treated inhumanely, and I’d like to take this opportunity to open up a dialogue with you, our valued customer:

I assure you that Dakota Beef cattle are among the most meticulously raised, well cared-for cattle in the country. Being a premium organic beef company and a leader in our industry comes with certain responsibilities that Dakota Beef takes very seriously. Among those is the responsibility to raise our cattle in the most humane way possible.

Raising our cattle in accordance with the USDA's National Organic Program is a guarantee that:

• Dakota Beef cattle are never given antibiotics or growth-promoting hormones
• Dakota Beef cattle receive unrestricted access to pasture
• Dakota Beef cattle are raised humanely
• Dakota Beef cattle are not crowded on feedlots in unsanitary or unsafe conditions
• Because Dakota Beef harvests fewer head of cattle than do most conventional beef suppliers much more care and attention can be given to the cattle at our plant prior to harvest.
• Dakota Beef has never nor will we ever process beef from cloned animals

Because our cattle are not given antibiotics, their natural immune systems are generally stronger than those of conventionally raised cattle. If an animal's health is in jeopardy and life-saving antibiotics or medication need to be administered, that animal is treated back to health and removed from our Organic program. If an animal is not ambulatory, it is also removed from our organic program, and treated humanely back to health using conventional veterinary methods.
